I watch so you don't have to.
This was not good. It wasn't engaging. It wasn't funny. Didn't care about the characters. I guess the big gag was for everyone from the first movie was in this movie. But the whole thing didn't make a lick of sense.
Basically, Prince Akeem is about to become King but he needs a son to be his royal heir. And wouldn't you know it, he has one back in America. How fortuitous. They come up with some weird explanation about this could have possible happened especially because in the first movie, you never seem Akeem with anyone else. They tied themselves in a lot of knots to get to the end of this picture. So, Akeem has a son and he has to go to America to get him. This takes about five minutes. Here's the thing. No one ever checked (blood test, maybe) to see if this kid was actually Akeem's son. Especially since the mother isn't even sure if Akeem is the father. Onward.
The fun part of the first film was Akeem being a fish out of water. But since Akeem is in Zemunda for the majority of the film there isn't a lot of time for him to be a fish out of water. I guess his son could be the fish out of water back in Zemunda, but that never worked quite right either or wasn't funny.
Wesley Snipes plays the rival warlord who wants to join his kingdom with Akeem's through marriage. He's the brother of the barking princess from the first movie as part of the arranged marriage. She makes an appearance as well.
The whole thing was very sad and dull. Maybe it wasn't supposed to be for me.

As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm
