Cruz
goddammit

air quality here just went back to hazardous.

They're doing some controlled burns in Felton to make more firewalls.

Air quality is now at 366 (anything over 100 is bad).

156 here, about what it's been all week. I think they start calling it hazardous at 200. I've never seen it over 300 - it was somewhere over 200 here back in 2018 with those big fires.

Campus was closed Monday and Tuesday, but apparently they aren't going to close it again even though the air quality hasn't changed. So I'm back on campus for two hours tomorrow.

86 (Moderate) in Mountain View right now, predicted to reach 114 (Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups).  First day it's dipped under 100.  It's averaged in the low 200s most of the last week.
During those times, I saw several instances of Santa Cruz topping 500.

I've mentioned my neighbors - a father and son - who've lived on our lot for years. The ex/mom has been by a lot during the shelter in place to build a lovely garden in the back of the lot (where we seldom go) while the third granny unit was changing occupants. She just had a small episode.

I was in the backyard, watching Yuki play with the new neighbor's dogs, Joey & Notchy, and trimming my nails, trying not to think about the passing of RBG. She stopped by as she often does, hoping to see the father or son, but they weren't in so then asked me if she could just sit and talk about the experience she had today.

She's a major conspiracy theorist, particularly against 5g, which she feels is related to covid. We talked about this before, but to be honest, I don't have the time or the sympathy right now. Today she was in a bad way, shaking, flushed, paranoid. She said drones have been following here and spy planes have flown so low over her home that they've blown off her hat. She said she was being followed by dragonfly drones and that they were giving her joint pain and dry mouth. She had just met a stranger on the street that confirmed her experience when they experienced the same symptoms. She kept saying 'I'm not crazy' (never a convincing thing to say) and telling me not to call the hospital. A dragonfly flew into the yard and she freaked out.

Meanwhile, Joey took a huge dump in our fenced off area of the yard right in front of me. He makes a point of pissing and pooping right in Yuki's tiny little section. I had just picked up some Joey poop from there less than an hour ago. He's a sweet old dog, but he's constantly stealing Yuki's toys and pooping and pissing in Yuki's area, which is probably less than 3% of the property he can access.

The woman freaked out and left. I'll touch base with my neighbors if I see them.

Freakin Cruz. Tweakers gonna tweak.

I just want to relax a bit and enjoy a Friday again. Is that so much to ask?

I touched base with her son. He was grateful and told me she's had episodes like this before. She used to be on psych meds but the side effects got her off of them and now she rejects the as part of the conspiracy. That's fairly typical. I told him my degree is in psych but didn't get into it and said I'd support them with whatever they might need. They're good neighbors. With all the stressors of the world, the vulnerable are breaking.

Now I'm going to have some dinner - Stacy made a delicious lentil soup - and tuck into some whiskey and smoked gouda, and some sort of mind numbing vid to try to salvage this most horrible Friday so I don't break myself.

In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.

Woman swims across Monterey Bay in record time
[Image: breed.jpg]
MONTEREY, Calif. (KION) Former University of California Berkley swimmer, Catherine Breed, has broke the record for fastest swim across the Monterey Bay.
Breed swam from Santa Cruz to Monterey in 12 hours and 42 minutes.
"I wasn't sure it was going to happen. I was going to be proud of myself either way. It's a monster to swim from Santa Cruz to Monterey. The cherry on top was breaking that record," said Breed.

Breed left the Santa Cruz Harbor Monday night. According to her blog, "Beyond the Black Line," she is swimming to raise money for diversity in aquatics. Breed called it a "call to action."

Breed said,"Santa Cruz is a surf Mecca. Monterey is a diver's dream. If there is one place that we can work to make aquatics more diverse and inclusive it is the waters from Santa Cruz to Monterey."
