I generally refrain from posting too much Potterhead stuff given Greg’s general disdain or Rowling & co. However my daughter is home for the holidays and has undertaken reading it all once more - all of it - and her reading speed is university level now so she’s progressing well.
We’ve been rewatching our DVDs as she’s been pointing out deviations from the books and noting the Easter eggs for readers of which there are actually an astounding number. Given our discussions of Gravity (http://www.brotherhoodofdoom.com/doomForum/showthread.php?tid=2950) and Roma (http://www.brotherhoodofdoom.com/doomFor...p?tid=4754) rewatching Azkaban really sticks out because it’s Cuarón directed.
It also introduces some major elements to the wizard of world like, well Azkaban, but also Dementors (Rowling’s depression metaphor) and the Patronus (her remedy, aside from making a mint on writing). Radcliffe, Watson & Grint have shaken off prepubescence and are starting to develop as actors, and Rowling shows she’s got the saga well charted with plenty of foreshadowing. It’s one of my favs of the series.
Now I’m struck again by Cuarón’s cinematography. He’s very toned down stylistically but his pans and handheld approach still shines. I’m really enjoying how he moves his lens about. Originally Del Toro was offered the director’s chair for this film but he was too focused on Hellboy.
