I wish I could sleep past 6 just one of these days. But I’m hard wired to wake up. Now I just wait.

Home
Yay I have a few hours at the bungalow to try to unplug the shower, then back to svale because holiday home care is super expensive (my cousin covered this morning and can do lunch).

Of course our shower was clogged but Stacy warned me and I spent about an hour dumping drain cleaners into it until it opened enough for that oh so ecstatic post fest wash.
I pulled a pre-dreadlock nat the size of a small mouse from my remaining mane. Maybe it was a mouse. Never quite know what’s in a dreadlock. Sometimes it’s candy, like a nug or a hash marble. Mostly it’s lice tho. Did the body check like a leper, checking for new bruises, scars, rashes, tattoos, brands, that sort of thing. All clean. I probably have enough momentum to make it over to my mom’s - with a little verve. Hope she goes easy on me. I’m pretty vulnerable after fests, like a broken hearted teenager. All in all, this was a great reggae and JAH Med rose to the occasion with talent & panache. (05-26-2019, 11:57 PM)Drunk Monk Wrote: I made the most $ in donations in the history of JM for one day. I find these muddled posts very funny in retrospect so for the most part, I'm letting them stand. But I feel obligated to explain Dancehall rat trap giraffe because that's exactly what I meant to write. When coming into the lot dancehall, someone randomly offered us a large rat trap. No reason why. Later there was this guy with a wooden giraffe carving. It was maybe a yard long and kinda nice. He was swinging it around like a nunchuk trying to skank or something. Somehow, the rat trap wound up attached to it. It was almost art. Well not quite. There was also a patient I saw that got busted for peeing on some art at one of the many artist booths. Now that's art...peeing on art. Or maybe it's just art commentary. I had a lot of irie fun this year. It's just what I needed to restore my faith in life and bring back some of the joy. The bottom line: Tash Sultana. They stole the show. Looking forward to more of them. It's actually just one human, but a non-binary one that prefers the pronoun 'they' instead of 'he' or 'she'. As long as they can play like that, whatev man - go for it. Here's a very long sample of what they do - at the tiny desk:

Cali Roots rescheduled for October 9-11 2020.
Oct 8 2020 is our 25th wedding anniversary. Until just now, I thought CR was 10/7-9 so I'm a bit relieved.

today should've been load-in.
i would get in early which was easy to do because i'd have banked time-off from tcec the prior weekend. i'd secure prime real estate and to recon throughout the infrastructure, as well as assist other vols with their arrival. mostly i'd just chill out in camp, enjoying libations and reuniting with the crews, and decompressing post-tcec. there were pre-shows at a club across the street in years prior to the last one. this was one of my all-time fav fests. it really allowed me to run amuck as you can see over the years past. i'll review this thread over the weekend, probably a few times. yeah, having another sad.

I just reread back from the beginning to 2018. That was quite a flashback and I'm so glad I took notes and that Greg left me a place preserve them. I'll read the rest tomorrow.
I talked to Tara for about an hour last night on the phone. She was bemoaning the fact that she hasn't been to a festival in years - not even a concert really - not since she started at the U. Cali Roots was her big one, the one where she had the most autonomy and could bring her friends. From losing my job, to losing TCEC, to losing Cali Roots. 2020 sucks.

Quote:Dear Cali Roots Family, Never did we ever think we’d be saying this but here goes. Due to the uncertainty around large-scale event production and COVID safety, Cali Roots will be postponed until May 2022. This is certainly not what we had hoped for, but it is clear that we will not be able to produce Cali Roots in any sort of form that will look and feel like our beloved festival this year. We miss our Cali Roots family so much. This past year has been incredibly challenging and awash with losses, but also full of unexpected blessings. Thank you to all who continue to support us by hanging on to your tickets and buying merch from our online store (new products & designs rolling out all year!). The love and hope you share with us continues to push us. We are determined to be standing when the dust settles and are counting the days until we are together again. To quote Greg "having a sad"

Now I know I'm completely out of it, but that looks like mostly unknowns to me. The only names I know are Sean Paul, Damian Marley and Ice Cube. Sublime doesn't count since the main guy is dead.

It's a solid Cali Reggae line-up, if you're into that sound. It's pop reggae. I wouldn't say that you're out of it. I'd say you're just not hip to the Cali Reggae scene, which is just as well. I think I have a sense of your reggae ear and it's not your sound. It's not mine either, but I've adapted to it as it's more prevalent nowadays. It's not rebel music. It's pop.
Thurs is about Alborosie for me. I was into him when he broke out. Italian Reggae. Wouldn't be desperate to see him tho. I have fond memories of the Dirty Heads here because I did a rescue when they were playing. (05-29-2013, 05:03 PM)Drunk Monk Wrote: 5/24-25/13 Fri, well, I hate Rebelution because their assholes. J. Boog is Jawaiian which I also don't care for but he makes the ladies swoon. I kinda like Natalie Rize because some friends worship her but I couldn't name a song. Sat is phat Cali reggae. I'd work a lot whilst my Cali reggae fans watched the acts. Sun - Jr. Gong. 'nuf said. And I'd check out Sublime out of respect, but I'd be prepared to be disappointed. It's so far away tho so it doesn't really matter. Maybe we'll revisit this thread in a year...
