Greg's Madness!

I have a new drone. The one that crashed was the stand-by. And by crashed, I mean hit the high power line. I also still have the semi-retired drone 3.

What? I don't have a problem.

But then...which drone will be the semi-retired one?  You need a new semi-retired drone.

Well, my birthday is coming up.

Maybe the one that currently sits on a platform high above the LA river won't be as badly damage as I think it is (It is totally damaged) and it can regain it's place as the stand-by.

So, yes. I drove to Los Angeles on Sunday and then home again. All on Sunday. I kept getting posts from the 6th Street Viaduct Facebook Group (I know. Check the title of this thread) showing how much progress they were making on the Viaduct. I knew the gaps in the recordings were going to be big. The sooner I went the better. The only problem was having to do an 81/2 drive to assuage the madness, at least for a bit. I finally talked myself into making the journey. I split up the journey by having lunch with Lyndell.

I left at 4 and arrived in Los Angeles at about 8:15. The bridge builder had been busy. Plus they had 14 months to do stuff. The train yard was full of cars so I had to do a lot of scrambling to get to my usual locations. Some of the locations were now completely unusable because the bridge covers them. They had security guards out and about because I think the bridge crews were supposed to be working. Although, I didn't seen anybody working but the security guards. The garment sweatshops were in operation, though.

Some of the murals I'd been photographing, particularly, Mighty Mouse were gone. But Rihanna still holds pride of place. There is a lot more structures to avoid while flying the drone so I was extra nervous. They new arches also blocked my view of the High Voltage wires, which are everywhere. Only some of my sweat came from the heat. Most came from fear of losing the drone.

I filmed for about two and a half hours. On two occasions the drone controller screamed at me to say my batteries were running out of juice. As usual I pushed it to get one more shot. I need to get back again sooner rather than later. It was fun to go back to the old haunts. Hopefully the bridge won't be completely covered in graffiti by the time it is complete.

My madness takes many forms. This happens occasionally. I have at least 150000 pictures on my computer. There are more that need to be on my computer but aren't. Regardless.

I found a collection of photographs by early Yosemite photographer Carleton E. Watkins today. He took a photo of El Capitan standing in front of this distinctive boulder. I am 90% certain I have stood in front of that same boulder for the same shot of El Capitan. I am currently hunting for that photograph so I can lay them side by side and say 'Cool'

If I don't find the photograph, you know I will be going to that spot on my next trip to Yosemite. This will be mine.

G-Man, you need a hobby-- uh, never mind, my bad. Please carry on.
In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.

I've heard there is a spot somewhere at Pt. Lobos where there are 3 holes in the ground from so many photographers setting up their tripods trying to capture a famous Edward Weston shot.

I think it might have been Ted Orland who mentioned it. I took a 2-week photo class from him in Maine, and then found out later that he was a teacher at Cabrillo College. He's a funny guy. Used to be one of Ansel's assistants.

I'm thinking of calling my Yosemite/Raymond project "And then it Burned Down" because everything has burned. In my second book in a row, a collection of Yosemite artifacts has been in a house that burned down. Yesterday in Raymond, the Potter house burned down. I could go on.
