It's good. Not as surprising as the first one. Gunn used a lot of the same tricks as he did in the first one but this time he has more money. A lot of the shots seemed like panels straight out of a comic book. Gunn is very fond of the slo-mo walking shot.
And even if the Star Lord is the titular hero for this piece, he seems to be sort of missing from the movie. It's all about the adventures of the other characters. Lots of heavy handed philosophy about family relationships. Since I am dead inside this kind of missed the mark for me.
I did see it in 3-D IMAX, so that was fun. Some of the shots look decidedly weird in this format. Do you know the effect that makes everything look like a miniature town although it's full sized? Well, that seemed to be the effect in a couple of shots.
But it was fun. Stay for the five credit sequences. And the credits were particularly fun as well. Watch them and you will see why.

One question without revealing any spoilers - is Michelle Yeoh really in it? If so, is it significant?
Ok that's two questions.

Didn't even realize it, but maybe, if it's the character I am now thinking of.
I think she's in it to help set up another tent pole.
Her name is listed as being part of the cast on IMDB.com. I know. That was just cheating.

Yes, I merged El Dingo's post about GOTG 2 into this thread since it already contained the conversation about GOTG 2

[No Spoilers]
I'm a huge fan of the first GotG. A couple of Dee Dee's co-workers came over on Sunday night to drink wine (them) and whisky (me) and watch it again. It really gets funnier with each viewing.
We made reservations for "D-Box" seats at the Hilltop Theater in Richmond. I hadn't seen a "D-Box" movie since "Mad Max: Fury Road" and thought GotG2 would be perfect. It's only $5 more so what the hell?
GotG2 continues the dry, irreverent humor (with a heavier dose of crude larfs). The FX were superb (especially Groot and Rocket) but the 3D was totally unecessary.
The music plays an even greater role, almost becoming a character itself.
There might of been a tad too much character development. Lots of touchy-feely bitch-and-moan sessions as the team mebers try and discover their inner selves, but it's made up for by the shooting and explosions.
The "D-Box" experience was not as good as "Fury Road". The seat rocked, rumbled and jolted but never enhanced the experience. One of our group was sensitive to the 3D and had to turn the settings of the seat down to alleviate motion sickness.
We all enjoyed it but agreed the first one was better.

New movies should have their own threads. I had no idea that an old GotG thread had posts about GotG2. I feel a drunken debate about too many posts vs. too many threads is in order.
I started a new GotG2 thread just to be a pest. Let's dance it off at the tourney.

A Greg vs ED dance off isn't quite as good as I imagine D-box lesbian porn might be, but I'll take what I can get.

Very entertaining. Visual, funny, ridiculous, absurd, great soundtrack and cg, good pacing, and it's all about baby groot - friggin Vin Diesel has the sweetest gig ever as Groot. Best role for Bautista too - so happy he's transcended playing bad guys with this.

Here is a great dissertation of The Guardians of the Galaxy (it's 35 minutes long so set some time aside - it's worth it):

Fun Fact: Dave Bautista's long time stunt double is named Rob de GROOT.
I wonder if Vin Diesel has a stunt double named Rob de Drax.
