X-Men III

When do we get to vote Halle Barry off the Island. She is really starting to get on my neck as a great indian philospher once said. I'm glad her whining finally paid off and she gets to be in every other scene. But every time you see her, all you can think is wow look at that acting. Grrr

I don't know if they missed Bryan Singer or not. Probably. Brett Ratner did an okay job on the effects and giant action sequences but it lacked any real story at it's heart. Did I mention they needed to lose Halle?

A lot of the small mutant moments were really funny. They did some cool flaying skin sequences, probably the best sequences of the film. But they need to cut down on people involved in the story. Every character needs his subplot or maybe not. I think Kelsey Grammar did a great job as the beast. But I think they need to get back to cranky wovlerine. Maybe in the proposed spin off. Tell Ian to tone it down. He's not in the Davinci Code right now.

I won't say it was a horrible diservice to the franchise but you wish for all the money the spent, they could have dropped a few dimes on the story. Good premise, lousy follow through.

Begin Rant:

The movie was s'posed to be "X-Men", not "Wolverine and his Super Friends". Killing off Scott AND Xavier?! Are they insane?? The relationship that scott and Jean had was the anchor of the team and the tragedy of the whole "Phoenix" thang. Killing off Xavier? And still trying to leave it open at the end for another sequel?! Jeezus! Read the goddamn comix, you insufferable, talentless, Hollywood succubi!!!

Oh, and I agree: enough with Storm already. Oh, and can they just for once maybe kick-ass on Magneto's henchpeople? Please?
In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.

I have to agree about Halle Berry, even though I haven't seen the movie. She is just super annoying, and I don't think she's very good looking. Okay, she has a good body, but all the top tier "actresses" do, so big deal. And she's just not sexy. AND she gave one of the worst and fakest Oscar acceptance speeches ever.

Was it as bad as the movie where she goes into the crazy kid's mind? Or was that Jennifer Lopez? Or some other annoying no-talent?

Which had the very disturbing sex scene with Halle in it. But didn't she look great?

So I've been on this Maul binge that I've been justifying because I'm working on a Maul story and it brought me back to the original X-Men, the DVD of which was lent to me by our comic fiend graphic artist, who enables any possible inclination I might have towards anything comic book like a crack dealer giving out that first free one.

None of my platforms have X-Men available, not Netflix, not Hulu+, not Showtime (which we just let go of because no more Homeland and Billions just didn't justify the fee), and not iTunes. I started watching X-Men 3 last week because it was available on my mom's xfinity.  I got almost an hour into it until I decided sleep would be better.  It was really, really, really dumb.

But back to the original X-Men, I was surprised how well I remembered the film while watching it.  If you asked me before last night, I would have said I only remembered a few scenes, but as it was playing out, I remembered the bulk of the film.  A scene would emerge and barfing out of some dark crag in my brain would come the whole scene before it was done.  It was a little weird but it validated my overall disdain for comic book movies.  They are such candy.  It's like if you haven't had a Butterfinger in years, and then you have one, and your brain goes, 'I so remember this'.  At my age and damAGE, I'm happy when I remember things I thought I forgot.  That being said, X-Men 1 has aged poorly.  The CGI looks so simplistic now, so fake.  The pacing of the story is mediocre, especially knowing where the franchise went later.  And there wasn't enough Toad for me to even extract a fragment of a sentence.  I've over-written the piece anyway and now need to go into trimming mode, so that's just as well.

This is the official end of the Maul Binge.

I'm outta Maul. Just Ecks v Sever and I'd have to rent that. Instead I'm going to watch my Force Awakens DVD which I bought when it dropped like all good Star Wars fans.

May the FORCE be with you.

Mine came the day I left. Watched it on the plane, though. United was showing it along with the other six films.
