I scored a single in the nosebleed seats (which are actually the best seats for a show like this).

Roger Waters: The Wall Live
HP Pavilion At San Jose, San Jose, CA
Wed, Dec 8, 2010 08:00 PM

Order for: Mark Maggi
Seat location: section 206, row 12, seat 21
Total Charge: US $ 72.95

They added another Anaheim show so actual last show doesn't go on sale till tomorrow. I'm going to try for it:

DATE VENUE CITY PRESALE
Sep 23 United Cener Chicago, IL May 11, 9 am CDT
Nov 11 Wachovia Center Philadelphia, PA May 11, 9 am EDT
Nov 30 Staples Center Los Angeles, CA May 11, 9 am PDT

It's on 12/3. I'll see it before ED. I'll try not to spoil it for him.

If I had the scratch, I would have totally paid for this show. As an RM vol, I'll only get to see bits and pieces. I'll have to review it so I can time out when to watch. Ironically, many of the RM vols are newbies and really have no idea what to expect. The Wall was our generation. Many of the new vols weren't even born when it was dropped. Hell, I've been working RM longer than some of the new vols have been alive. So hopefully, I'll be able to time it out right, being familiar with it more than those kids.

I guess when my dad was into Johny Mathis in the 80s, it was kind of like me being into Waters in the 10s....

Greatest
Rock
Spectacle
EVER

I caught about a third of the show. Waters is at the top of his game, completely updating The Wall with state-of-the-art sound, effects, pyro, and props. The Wall 2010 is monumental. If I had seen it all straight through, it would have probably made my TOP 10 list.

Do whateever you can to see this. Beg, borrow, steal, snog roadies, whatever. I lack the funds and connections to get into the HP shows. I'm waiting for a miracle.

I'll defer to ED's review of the HP show. Then I'll add my Rock Med spin on the Oracle show.

BRING THE BOYS BACK HOME!

It was the hammiest Broadway musical of a rock show ever. Worse than the Berlin show even.

ED, you might as well just give me your ticket for Wed and save yourself the aggravation. I'll jump on that grenade for you because we're such old friends. Confusedupz:

ED, I've got some magic beans I'll trade for your ticket. Seriously. Magic Beans! You don't really need to see another Waters show. You're so over him. What you need is some magic beans.

That's the problem with my job. I'm surrounded by people who always want to pick fights.

Enjoy the show, Mark. I'll be thinking of you and your Wall-gasm tonight.

Meh.

Not as good as the Gorillaz show.

It could have been the 6' 6" 300lb guy sitting next to me texting away the ENTIRE show. His elbow and shoulder kept bumping me as he typed wildly away to someone. Probably about how he's a huge Floyd fan and was so excited about being there. Occasionally he would look up when there was a loud noise then thrust his meaty arm in the general direction of the stage, wildly pointing in case the rest of the audience couldn't see a flaming plane crashing into a wall. He literally only put the phone away during the intermission.

I didn't care for the anti-war additions. I found it broke the flow of the story. 'The Wall' had some subtle anti-government context, but only because Pink blamed war for taking his father away.

I also felt all the good FX were used in the first 30 minutes. The rest of the show had some cool video (especially the illusions of the wall bending and breaking), but no flash pots and lasers. Even the giant puppets were somewhat lethargic.

The musicianship was top-notch and the vocals were strong.

All in all I would probably rather see the movie on an iMAX screen than see that show again.

As for RMing the Wall, my preshow prediction was spot on. Rm was swamped with older patrons that had 1 hit or had a nibble of a brownie and hadn't imbibed in a spell, and got knocked on their butt. The whole psych crew showed, which was a bit of a bother as I had hoped to be more under the radar, then the next thing he knew, I had a posse of a dozen people following me about as no one else knew the venue very well. It took me some quick stepping, but he managed to shake all but one, which was fine as I was planning to proctor that one in from the get go.

I caught the start of side one all the way to Young Lust, then got busy thru the break. Caught nobody home (which I've always adored as a writer's muse song, even thought that's not it's original meaning) thru comfortably numb (which, well, I imagine even you more sober DOOMies know what an anthem that is), then some more calls. Wound up outside the venue, waiting on a hummer limo for these two guys from Santa Cruz - one of whom was too drunk. Their company sprang for the limo, and it was a party yacht on wheels - disco lights, full wet bar, could seat 20 people easily, and got 7 mpg. It was a funny conclusion to the show, but I would have rather watched the trial.
