Just took my first pass at the schedule and downloaded the app. It's overwhelming like always. Marvel is back but there's no way I'm gonna try for that. Gotta see what's up with Den of Geek, and if Crunchyroll is doing a concert (these are offsite unofficial events). Also might try for the Paramount Lodge, another offsite which I've never been in because it has a major line. The original Enterprise model will be there.

On a side note, Daniel Wu is racing in the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, AUGUST 12-15, 2026, at Laguna Seca. We might try to touch base while he's in Mo Bay.

Laguna Seca is a 20 min ebike ride from Shannon's place.

I’ve been to Laguna Seca for the Dead, and also for Laguna Seca Days (aka LSD). I have fond lysergic memories of that track.
Tickets are $100+
It’s Japanese rebuilt cars, what Daniel specializes in making and racing. I think it’s one of those endurance races.
But back to sdcc, I’m starting to reach out to friends to coordinate.

Quote:“Star Trek” Celebrating 60th Anniversary at San Diego Comic-Con 2026 with Panels, Offsites, Fan Screening, More
[Image: image002-e1783694833991.webp]
Star Trek is boldly going to San Diego Comic-Con, for a milestone celebration. As the franchise marks its 60th anniversary, Paramount+ and CBS Studios are bringing stars from across nearly six decades of Trek to Hall H, alongside a look at the upcoming fourth season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, a free fan screening, and activations across downtown San Diego, as reported by Variety.
Things kick off in Hall H on Saturday at 12:30pm with Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, as stars Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding, Melissa Navia, and Paul Wesley join executive producers Akiva Goldsman, Henry Alonso Myers, and Alex Kurtzman to celebrate Season 4.
Immediately following, the franchise’s 60th anniversary takes center stage with a panel featuring talent from across the Star Trek universe, including Michael Dorn, Robert Picardo, Connor Trinneer, Cirroc Lofton, Doug Jones, Michelle Hurd, Jerry O’Connell, Christina Chong, Karim Diané, and George Takei, with a special introduction by Eugene “Rod” Roddenberry.
On Friday evening, they’re hosting a free fan screening of the first two episodes of Strange New Worlds Season 4 at the Balboa Theatre. While episode 1 premieres on Paramount+ the day before, attendees will get an early look at episode 2, along with surprise giveaways while supplies last. Comic-Con badges are not required, and you can RSVP now via 1iota, which is essentially a lottery.
The celebration extends beyond the convention center as well. The Paramount+ Booth #3529 will feature arcade-style games, including a Strange New Worlds Bridge Command Memory Game.
At the Paramount+ Lodge, fans can visit a Port Galley-inspired installation featuring the original U.S.S. Enterprise filming model on loan from the Roddenberry Estate.
Meanwhile, the Marriott Marquis will host the “Star Trek: Boldly Built” photo experience showcasing LEGO and Magic: The Gathering collaborations Wednesday, July 22-26, while The Sinclair on G Street transforms into the “Star Trek Fleet Command: 60 Years of Star Trek” archive experience, complete with props, VR, photo ops, claw machines, exclusive swag, and more for Thursday-Sunday of the con. Friday evening will also include an invite-only event for the Star Treek Fleet Command community.
Elsewhere on the programming schedule, on Thursday, the “Star Trek: The Collector Frontier” panel will spotlight the latest collectibles and collaborations from Paramount Consumer Products, LEGO, and Magic: The Gathering, with giveaways planned throughout the presentation.

SPACEBALLS: THE NEW ONE is preparing to go to ludicrous speed at San Diego Comic-Con! Join the cast and filmmakers as they land in Hall H on Friday, July 24 at 4:00 p.m. And remember: please keep your Schwartz inside the convention center at all times.

SPACEBALLS: THE NEW SYNOPSIS
Somehow, Dark Helmet has returned! Forty years after the events of the first Spaceballs, fifty years after the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, and one year after the events of The Devil Wears Prada 2, the galaxy is once again under threat. A threat so evil, so unstoppable, so completely lacking in any original ideas, that it has vowed to bring back the past... every last bit of it.

With Lone Starr in hiding, Queen Vespa on the throne, and the Schwartz stretched thinner than a franchise releasing TV episodes theatrically, the only hope for the galaxy is Vespa's undisciplined son, Prince Starburst, and a mysterious Palace advisor named Destiny. Together, they must find Lone Starr, Yogurt, and any other iconic legacy characters fans are demanding before they discover the hard way that, while some threats you can fight, the reboot is not one of them.

SPACEBALLS: THE NEW ONE
Starring: Rick Moranis, Josh Gad, Keke Palmer, Lewis Pullman, Anthony Carrigan, George Wyner, Daphne Zuniga, Bill Pullman, Mel Brooks
Writers: Josh Gad, Dan Hernandez, Benji Samit
Based On: Characters Created by Mel Brooks & Thomas Meehan & Ronny Graham
Director: Josh Greenbaum
Producers: Brian Grazer, Jeb Brody, Mel Brooks, Josh Gad, Josh Greenbaum, Kevin Salter
Executive Producers: Adam Merims, Benji Samit, and Dan Hernandez

Honestly, I didn't care for the original. That Mel Brooks humor only worked for horror, Hitchcock, and westerns for me

Samesies. I was out after Young Frankenstein. Both YF and BS had the benefit of really strong cowriters.

I liked High Anxiety too but maybe that was because I understood the painfully obvious references. Haven’t seen that since it came out so perhaps it had not held up. YF is still ok. BS is touted as something that wouldn’t play in today’s woke world by the right but I think it might; I think that may be another right delusion but I haven’t rewatched it to prove my hypothesis.

[Description]

Why We Make Comics: The Urge, The Obsession, The Necessity Friday, July 24 | 7:00-8:00 | Grand 10 & 11, Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina
Behind every comic is a deeper story… one that goes beyond craft, technique, or industry know-how. Rylend Grant and David Avallone (hosts of the Telly Award-winning WRITERS BLOCK podcast) bring together a panel of acclaimed creators and dig into the real reason they make comics: the personal drives, emotional compulsions, and life experiences that make storytelling not just a career, but a necessity. From catharsis to chaos, therapy to obsession, this candid conversation explores what fuels the creative fire and why, for some, making comics isn’t a choice at all.
Special note: Fans may want to keep an eye on White Cat Entertainment's social channels during Comic-Con week for information on an additional special appearance from Mancini!

Founded by writer, filmmaker, comedian, and producer Chris Mancini, White Cat Entertainment is a content and publishing company developing creator-owned comics and entertainment properties across publishing, audio, film, television, and digital media. Its growing catalog includes Long Ago & Far Away, Rise of the Kung Fu Dragon Master, Alpha Cat, Pacify Me: A Handbook for the Freaked Out New Dad, Conversations From the Abyss, and The Quiet Journeys of Professor Atwood. The company is actively engaging partners to expand its original properties across multiple platforms. For licensing inquiries about White Cat Entertainment IPs, contact Rylend Grant.

I've worked with Ryland before for Immortal. I suppose I'm obligated for this one...

When it came out, I felt like it was retreading Hardware Wars. I've actually never seen Spaceballs. I put it in my queue just last week because someone at work made a reference to it, but I haven't yet been motivated to actually watch it..
