That bus art seems to me to be more Peter Max than related to the SF artists. Oh well.
I've never seen Jerry with that guitar either.

Totally Peter Max. The inexperienced just can’t sort psychedelic art properly. And who is going to want a muni tiedye?
I think that guitar is his Travis Bean - https://jerrygarcia.com/guitars/

Cool page! Somebody on the guitar channel at work shared pictures of himself playing Alligator at a show recently. I don't recall the details of how that happened, but he knew the current owner somehow...

Quote:Jerry Garcia Street Dedication Ceremony Set For August 1st In San Francisco
Andrew O'Brien | Tuesday, July 22nd, 2025
Screengrab via Google Maps – San Francisco block soon to be renamed Jerry Garcia Street
As Deadheads from all over prepare to descend upon San Francisco, CA in early August for a long list of events celebrating 60 years of the Grateful Dead, the city of San Francisco and the organizers of its annual Jerry Day celebration have announced an unveiling ceremony for the newly re-named Jerry Garcia Street (Harrington Street between Alemany Boulevard and Mission Street). The street-naming ceremony will take place at 11:00 a.m. (time subject to change) on Friday, August 1st, which would have been the late Grateful Dead guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter’s 83rd birthday.
Ad ends in 30
According to a press release about the Jerry Garcia Street dedication, “The ceremony, taking place on Jerry’s birthday, will be on Harrington Street between Alemany Boulevard and Mission Street in the Excelsior District where Garcia was born and lived with his grandparents. Trixie Garcia, Jerry’s daughter, and Jerry Day founder Tom Murphy are confirmed to attend. San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie and other special guests are also expected to attend.”

The 23rd Annual Jerry Day, which celebrates Garcia’s contributions to music and the city of San Francisco, is set to take place on Saturday, August 2nd at the Jerry Garcia Amphitheater in McLaren Park. The festivities will feature Melvin Seals & JGB with fiddle player Mads Tolling, plus Stu Allen & Mars Hotel. Following the show, after-party events and an Excelsior Market will take place along the Excelsior Corridor. Find more information about the 23rd annual Jerry Day and its surrounding events here.

Meanwhile, Dead & Company—featuring Grateful Dead veterans Bob Weir and Mickey Hart alongside John Mayer, Oteil Burbridge, Jeff Chimenti, and Jay Lane—will be in Golden Gate Park on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, August 1st, 2nd, and 3rd alongside a trio of high-profile opening acts (Billy Strings, Sturgill Simpson, and Trey Anastasio Band). Order your Dead & Company Golden Gate Park livestreams here.
Grahame Lesh & Friends are also hosting The Heart of Town, a guest-packed, three-night celebration at Pier 48 in Mission Rock, featuring an evening show on Thursday, July 31st and late-night parties on Friday and Saturday, August 1st and 2nd. Check out the full lineup for The Heart of Town and grab your tickets here.

San Francisco Mayor Lurie says, “Jerry Day is a uniquely San Francisco celebration—rooted right here in the Excelsior, where Jerry Garcia grew up, and carried forward each year by the neighbors, artists, and small businesses who make this city so special. This free, homegrown tribute in McLaren Park brings generations of fans together and shows that San Francisco’s creative spirit isn’t just history—it’s alive in every neighborhood.”
Of note, Garcia is not the only member of the Grateful Dead whose name will adorn a city street. Earlier this year, Port Chester, NY renamed the street outside The Capitol Theatre after late bassist Phil Lesh, who frequented the venue throughout his later years.

Got to SF on schedule. The deadheads are here in force. Picked up my wristband at BGC and checked out the pop up store there which is large and has lots of great stuff but the last thing I need is more dead stuff. One thing is for certain - the boys are making bank. Serious bank. So is anyone in hustling dead stuff. There are banners on the civic center lampposts. It’s glorious.
Got to Tara’s and scored a nice parking spot just up the road. Tara & Bri are recovering from their backpacking trip (Tara got some nasty sunburn on her back) - treated them to their first real meal at Jijime - had the spicy kimchee soup with seafood which was delish. We got back and watched some of the new She Ra which we had all seen, then I convinced them to check out some of the original cartoon, which gave us all some good laughs.
Now I’m in bed with Shiva & Charly (the cats) who know I’m allergic to them so they’re snuggling up like cats do. Ready to crash. Been surfing Facebook and seeing friends arrive and reach out (several deadhead chicks which is kinda weirding me out). We are everywhere.
Tomorrow I’ll start the day with breakfast at Coffee Movement.

There are concerts all across SF - Oracle, GAMH, pier 41 & lots of clubs & bars. Im at GGP where the biggest show (60k) is. BGC is where staff picks up wristbands & theres a big pop up merch store there.
I got in smoothly. Hung out jn shakedown which is big. Caught a ride in so didn’t get searched. Helped to retrieve the golf carts so I got to drive around a bit. The t shirts are blue tiedyes and I have a matching bandana that I’ve carried for years. Spoke to the responders - ranted a bit.
Got radio. Got Carlos a radio - dude Jedi ed his way - he has no wristband.

Good ol’ GD
Rocked me to my soul
So busy
3 restraints, 1 nekkid tripper (impressive in the cold fog)
One dude for assault because started punching people with his vape which he thought was a lightsaber… honest mistake.
They gave me $60 worth of meal coupons. I only manatees to spend $20 on garlic mushroom noodles that were so salty I had to pound a couple of liquid deaths to sort myself.
I only saw the opening of set 2. I was working call for the rest of it. Haven’t laughed with a tripper & crew that hard in years. Didn’t get the intake count but about 5 rolls.
Such mischief. Such fun. Some Jedi magic shown. Earned my keep for a while.
