I've always thought Ang Lee was best at directing women. Crouching Tiger was about the women. Sense and Sensibility - Jane Austin - women. Eat Drink Man Woman should have been Eat Drink Woman Woman. The problem with the Hulk? Obviously he should have done the She-Hulk. That would have rocked. So in Brokeback Mountain, he directs men to be women. If he had just done it with cowgirls instead of cowboys, I would have run out to see it. Just mention that to any guy, and I'm sure he'll agree.
BTW, I really enjoyed Lee's first film, Pushing Hands. It was about this old Tai Chi master dude and his relationship with his western daugther-in-law. It's a small film, but it cast martial arts in a totally different light...
