SCOTTS VALLEY — A single lane of Highway 17 in Scotts Valley will be closed during daytime hours over the course of several days next week as crews conduct maintenance work along the busy thoroughfare.

From 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 9 through March 13, the right lane of northbound Highway 17 from Granite Creek Road in Scotts Valley to upper Glenwood Drive will be closed so Caltrans crews can perform vegetation control work.

In a release, Caltrans advised that commuters can expect delays of 10 minutes or more as a result.

The maintenance project will involve clearing culverts and removing dead or dry brush, trees and ladder fuels that could be consumed during a wildfire event.

Meanwhile, the city of Scotts Valley has implemented a separate closure to repair a sinkhole that formed in the roadway.

The left turn lane onto Glenwood Drive near Granite Creek Road and Scotts Valley Drive was closed during daytime hours Thursday so crews could begin to fill the hole. The closure lasted from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will continue under the same hours through March 10, weather permitting, according to a release from the city.

Travelers should expect delays and were encouraged to plan extra travel time during construction hours.
