Honey Don't (2025)
#3
It all came together well upon my viewing. It had that signature Coen tangled mystery style, populated by quirky characters and parsed with sharp suburban violence. Ethan has yet to reach that odd chemistry wifh his storytelling solo, but he still can deliver an engaging film. Or maybe it was all the sex that madly my attention. Good lesbian sex is always worth a watch and goofy reverend sex can be funny, which it sorta was.

Qualley stood out - seen her before but never really took notice. And a good role for Plaza, who I’ve always liked (figures that she was pierced). I thought Day was wasted - he could’ve done more but was handed a one-dimensional role. Evans was ridiculous, cartoonish and unconvincing. His pretty boy act was all that worked but I would’ve enjoyed a stronger character actor that was more psycho in that role like Dafoe or Walken. The MAGA bumper sticker bit was almost funny.

Not a great film but an improvement on Coen’s previous suburban lesbian film, Drive-Away Dolls. This had better storytelling, a much stronger cast and far better sex scenes. I enjoyed the unfolding of the mystery. It had a few decent mcguffins, not mind blowing but entertaining, and lots more nipples.

Only recommended for D00Mers thst are deep into Coen bros (& it looks like we’ve both seen it now).
