We dropped paramount+ but Amazon offered the first ep free. First one’s free. How many times have I fallen for that?
A typical premiere ep that introduces the new class and the new ship. Hunter has a good take on the captain/chancellor role. I think she’ll do well. She’s half lanthanite - a long living race introduced in SNW with the engineer Pella (Scotty’s teacher). This race serves as a device to insert 60s nostalgia to the first gen of Trekkies. I like the way Hunter lays across the con. Giamatti plays Nus Braka, a Kligonite (half Klingon half tellurite, which must’ve been a grotesque coupling but I’ve hoped the franchise would explore tellurites again). He’s not fooling anyone. It’s Paul Giamatti. He plays his typecast asshole but in heavy make up. There’s some new races too. Number 1 is a Klingon/Jem Hader mix, another grotesque coupling. The Doctor from Voyager is back. Not a fan, tied to most annoying starfleet doctor with Bashir.
I liked it. It’s very much in step with the new treks - DISCO, SNW. LD - yet fresh. The ship sets are stunning and Im glad they blew it up right away. The Academy is still in SF or so they say. It’s actually on the other side of the GGB, so it should be Marin.
I’m eager to see more, but it’ll have to wait until we get P+ again.
