I don't like the Mucinex...it seems to not affect any symptoms for me, but does make me incredibly loopy. I had a bad knife accident one year because I took some and decided to make bread pudding with a stale (hard as a rock) baguette and a brand new serrated knife. Luckily when I bounced off the bread and cut thru my finger, I only got to the tendon and not thru it and didn't puncture the knuckle area. First time I had stitches and lots of PT do prevent scar tissue from forming and keep flexibility.
My go to (besides pozole or thom gar kai soup) is alka-seltzer cold plus (the tablets, not the capsules). They changed the formula a few years ago, but for me, they still seem to work better than anything else.
I usually go with the nighttime formula when I decide that a cold is not going away, and it helps with the symptoms enough that I can get some rest, which is probably the best cure...
