Well, here we are. The Queen was gone for the weekend and I still had a few bucks left on an Apple Gift Card.
Wow! Almost three hours of Tom Cruise doing the Tom Cruise things. Everybody spoke like they were saying the most important line ever in the history of line speaking. Everything was fraught with peril. Everything was up against the clock. I'm amazed they didn't have the ticking clock on the bottom screen to tell us constantly we were up against a time crunch. Although in one of the sets there is a giant clock with a countdown to doomsday.
First quibble right off the bat. Ethan Hunt is on the run, hiding from the government. No one can get to him. And yet, he is watching a video the president sent him. I guess someone can find him.
Lots of flashbacks and call outs to all the previous installments in the franchise. Lots of Flash Forward to scenes later in the movies as they discuss what they are going to do. There is a lot of discussion about what they are going to to and how they are going to do it.
Esai Morales needs to say the name of the McGuffin a few hundred more times. If it were a drinking game, you would die from alcohol poisoning.
I can't believe they did an entire fight scene where all you saw were the reaction shots of Haylel Atwell.
I would also like to know the budget of this movie. Some of the sets were insane. Especially inside the submarine. They must have spent all the money on those sets. And productions. Why have one Osprey in a shot when you can have two? And a lot of it looked practical.
So much suspension of disbelief in this film there was probably enough to build a bridge.
And the final stunt chase would not end. It seemed like a dare to see if they could actually kill Cruise.
No, I don't like fun. But again, this wasn't fun.
