My job sucks more than yours
#71
I thought I was done with work-related travel for the year. Apparently not. Apparently I'm going to Birmingham, Alabama the weekend before Thanksgiving.

My company owns a court reporting school (great way to grow your own customer base). The school get federal funding for something or other (probably something to do with the Americans with Disabilities Act or some other federal jobs program thing). Don't know the details but found out today that apparently there's some sort of percentage on that, where only a certain percentage of the school's operating expenses can fall under the federal funding and apparently they came up short. The school will go under unless Stenograph can come up with some sort of miracle plan to generate income that can be diverted to the school. What's my company's miracle? Why me, of course! After all Cindi's workshops are SO popular, that it doesn't matter that there's only two weeks notice or that they're going to hold the event on the weekend before Thanksgiving. Cindi's so wonderful that of course, people will drop everything they're doing to take advantage of this amazing opportunity.

I'm going to be amazed if they get five people to show.

So now, instead of just a leisurely trip with one bag and no computer to my parents from November 22-30, I'm now flying to Birmingham on the 20th, from Birmingham to Tampa on the 23rd, then back to L.A. on December 1st and dragging all my equipment with me. So now I'm out of town for nearly two weeks instead of 8 days. Bleaaah. Good thing I've got a nice boyfriend who will take care of my critters.

Of course, I had to cancel the flights and very nice comfy seats I booked back in May and book new flights. Because it's last minute and flying around Thanksgiving, I've got middle seats on American and heaven knows what on Southwest-- blech. Traveling sucks enough when I'm "Premier" on United and getting the "special" treatment reserved for frequent travelers.

Grrrrrrr.
Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.
