Is that a vintage fridge? If so it might be fixable, if you can find a repair guy. You might be able to troubleshoot it yourself - plenty of appliance repair videos on Youtube - and replace the part. There's an appliance parts store next to Recycle Books on the Alameda.
My parents had an old fridge (a Kelvinator and I wish I broke the name plate off it) and it lasted from 1964 until sometime in the 90s. It made a lot of noise for years.
