What is Starfleet? (ep7) started out a bit rough. It was done in documentary style, the premise being Erica's brother tasked to make a documentary. It opened with a statement from Starfleet, and was done with an 'amateur' cinematographic style where the 'official' Enterprise cameras were footnoted. SNW is always pushing boundaries, like it should, some work, some don't. This wasn't quite working for me because Erica's bro was labelling Starfleet as colonizers, which it kinda is sometimes, but his character, and the ultimate resolution of his story, wasn't that satisfactory.
The mission was about a space kaiju that was weaponized - a moral dilemma for the crew. As the documentary progressed, there were some snapshots of the crews' backstories - Spock, Uhura, Dr. M'Benga - not overly revelatory but well done. And then the resolution was beautiful. The ultimate definition of the Starfleet was spot on. Gave me the feels.
Gotta hand it to SNW. They keep it coming in fresh new ways.
