A Midsummer’s Night Dream preview

The preview is really their final dress rehearsal before an audience. It’s pay as you like and Tara got tix. She came down with JJ, they spent Saturday downtown & spent the night which eased Yuki’s anxiety about Stacy being away. Tara checked in with a high school friend who’s dealing with some major family issues on Sunday while I was at yoga and we all went up to DeLaveaga in the afternoon. It was a beautiful day - the weather was perfect and the house was full.

It took the cast a bit to warm up but once they got into it, they were hysterical. Hermia and Oberon were great from the get go. It’s so easy for actors to fall into that song-songy rhythm of Shake’s rhyming meters and any actor that can rise above that has skills. Hermia vs Helena was spot on and had the audience uproaring with laughter. Puck was also nailing it. Then the final play within a play where Willie pokes at himself with vicious self mockery was spot on with the former director (who played Scrooge last Dec) was Bottom and he’s got serious Shakespearean skills. There was this little kid in front of us who was bored during the first afte, shuffling his feet in the gravel, who had to be shushed several times by his moms - he nearly fell out of his chair laughing so hard.

Saw a yoga classmate in the front row but never caught her eye.

We had a great time - Bravo!
