Na Cha the Great (1974)
#1
Na Cha is Cantonese for Nezha.

This is one of those super cheesy Shaw Brothers flicks, an attempt to tell Nezha's tale in live-action before Hong Kong had access to any special effects beyond basic green rooms and fog machines. Alexander Fu Sheng plays Nezha and he built his reputation on punk kid upstart roles, so he was a decent choice. He's a bit thick to be much of a kid tho. The Dragon Prince is Fung Hak-On, who epitomizes the sleezy Kung Fu villain. He spends his time trying to kidnap and rape cute human gals. Directed by the legendary Chang Cheh, who delivered many wuxia classics, like nearly a hundred of them. Choreographed by the mighty Lau Kar-Leung, well, they're all phoning it in. There are some long complex sequences, but it lacks the precision of a great Shaw brothers flick. The best part is the dragon puppets. And I'll give them some credit for the Nezha's flaming skates, which however they managed that effect, were clearly real fire.

Not D00M recommended.
