This is a great music doc for this band. It’s edgy, poignant, and nightmarish. Some of the footage is soul baring interview. Some is extracted from their music videos. Some is constructed just to tell their story. And some is unflinching real life - like footage of Yolandi giving birth to their daughter Sixteen by C-section, which is intense if you’ve never witnessed that. Sixteen has inherited her parents’ intensity and I can imagine her joining the band at some point. The end credits video features her and she was captivating like in the trailer. But the song, which is all about illusion, brings the entire doc into question. It’s a curated performance - while exposingly authentic, it’s true to Zef and the theatrics that is Die Antwoord.
All told its spot on storytelling for one of the strangest bands. D00M recommended.
