I rewatched Dune (part one). It took me two attempts because last night I fell asleep about fifteen minutes in and was nodding in and out for the next hour until I finally bailed and went to bed. I started over tonight.
I still like the design and ambition of it. I’ve always liked the concept of the force field suits that can only be penetrated by slower moving objects, like slowly drawn blades. It justifies swords over guns and that just works for me. Overall I enjoyed the rewatch as there was much I had forgotten, and the visuals are cool, even if it was heavy handed at points.
The Star Trek connection weirded me out. Lynch’s version (David not Greg) had Picard as Gurney Halleck. Villanueve’s film has Dr M’Benga (Babs Olusanmokun) as Janis. That’s weird.
I am ready for Part 2, although I’d still like to rewatch the Lynch version. It keeps waffling from being free on Amazon Prime to being a rental.
