Well, that's a wrap. I don't know what happened in season 5. Maybe the writers died, or were Re-assigned to rescue other faltering projects, but the story lines got pretty whacky - gaps, leaps...very muddled. The actor playing Jim Gordon got decidedly worse. We watched a few episodes while on vacation on some ultra high def TV which gave the production a terrible hand-held quality. Not recommended.
At one point, barbera and Gordon have a one-nighter, and within an episode or two, she reveals she's pregnant. Then, later in the series, Lee, the Doc (Moreena), is talking to Gordon about how it will work with the 3 of them raising the child. It was this abrupt jump in the story and we had to go back to see if we missed an episode, but no. Maybe the show was cancelled and they were just cutting together what they had to wrap the series...
In the last episode, they finally address the leap that has to take place for the dweebish Bruce to ever become Batman. The previous episode starts ends with him leaving Gotham. The next episode begins with "Ten Years Later..."
Penguin gets out of prison, pudgy and now with monocle. Jeremiah (Joker) isn't really brain dead, kills Echo (his Harley Quinn-esque assistant), and kidnaps Jim Gordon and Barbara Kean (and Lee's) 10 year old daughter. Since Barbara once called herself Barbara "Queen" in an episode, we can guess Harley's origin story...
Overall, a terrible last season, much like the Pennyworth series.

Oh, and Season 5 opens with a sequence where Gordon is marching and everyone joins ranks behind him including Penguin and The Riddler with machine guns. They all take positions in a Helms Deep-like final battle, but then the sequence ends and they don’t revisit it until the penultimate episode, so you watch most of Season 5 trying to understand WTF is going on…the editing/storytelling is really unclear
