A Ukrainian jidaigeki flick. Not bad. It doesn’t have high cinematic aspirations. Rather, it tells a decent story that almost sounds like a joke - a samurai, a bondsman, and a jew walk walk the road of vengeance. And this does have a comedic angle. There are some decent gags. There’s also a lot of spitting into faces and hand lopping off. The fights are ok, not stellar but not weak either. There’s some clever cinematography to showcase the choreo. Lots of ninjas, and that’s always good. Shiriken action. Some rear view bondage, Even some nyotaimori (I know I’ll have truly achieved martial arts villain status when I get served nyotaimori). Most of all, there’s gratuitous sword fights. The katana loves blood.
Not fully D00M recommended but there are far worse ways to spend 90 mins.
