Gotham
#1
We've been watching episodes of this for some time, but we're kicking into binge mode. Season 1 dragged along 22-23 episodes telling the back stories of the crime bosses in the before times. its supposed to be the story of Jim Gordon, but it's mostly the rise and fall and rise again of Penguin (who is a lucky bastard), and we see the beginnings of so many characters. Season 1 finale is a frantic push to convert some of these characters, into the villains we know from the Batman canon. It feels like we know where Catwoman, Harley Quinn, the Joker, the Riddler and even Two Face are coming from, even though they haven't quite landed. The distance master Bruce Wayne has to go from being a dweebish little rich orphan into the Batman is an unbelievable chasm at this point.

Season 2 picks up the pace and introduces Professor Strange, Mr Freeze, starts moving the character arcs forward.

This latest episode introduced Paul Rubens as the Penguin's father which was unexpectedly timely.

Overall, this feels a bit like Pennyworth season 3 - a bit of a mess, but we still watch to see what happens next.

PS: Arthur Pennyworth is played by Sean Pertwee, the third Dr Who, John Pertwee's son. The resemblance is remarkable.
