While it didn't go into great detail about things like who made all the costumes, the Barons were each in control of certain resources and some of the intrigue was the political struggles between rival barons to get their shares. But I distinctly remember Nick Frost bringing up this exact point in interview. He asked 'who are the candlemakers?' or something along those lines. I can't remember now if I used that quote - I do remember debating over it - and I wrote so much about Badlands that I'm not going to go back to try and find it now...
