The Man from Kathmandu (2020)
#1
This is a Nepalese martial arts flick. It was intriguing because it came from such a different perspective. The locations were cool and it’s a lot about religious struggles between Islam and Hindu. It seemed against extremism, and showed some unity across religions against that, but the lead character Faisel comes from LA where he’s been groomed online to join isis. So it’s got a little more that the usual martial flick.

The lead is Jose Manuel who is also fight choreographer and stunt director. He’s ok. He’s got a good right leg and a decent roundhouse. He favors a show where there are two opponents and he shifts quickly back and forth between attacking and defending between them. His precision is decent and he’s got some good aerial kicks. My only complaint is that none of his strikes have much impact. The bodies are flying but they don’t look like they were hit that hard.

That being said, it’s worth a peep. It has a plot (beyond revenge), some social complexity and fantastic locations. I was amused.

Only mildly D00M recommended and only to the martial arts movie buffs here, only for its exoticness.
