He was a prop comic. The watermelon/hammer shtick was funny once, but he made a career out of it. Apart from props, I recall him being mostly about silly observational humor. He had a bit about not being able to get comfortable in bed because of arms. He said wouldn't it be great if you could take off you arms to go to sleep. The problem is you could take off one, but how would you take off the other one?
