So my signing went ok. Signed a few copies and chatted up so customers.
Then right as I was leaving the booth, my cousin, who I haven’t seen in years, rolls up. We walk half of the exhibit hall together (no small feat) catch up and share stories. He is on the brink of retirement after a career sculpting figurines for disney and movies. He shared tales of working at Toho for a few months while they were filming Godzilla v Biolante - amazing tales. It was so fun - what a surprise treat.
I got my room and it’s on the corner of north tower with a balcony and a commanding view of the ocean. It is an incredible room. During the move is when I ran into Kevin Smith.
I cosplayed Money Heist to great effect. It’s a practical costume and I had several flattering requests to pose for pix. Haven’t seen any other money heisters. I finished the rest of of the exhibit hall, treated myself to some convention center nachos, and bought Tara a hat. Couldn’t find post cards tho. I guess they’re obsolete. Found lots of mini print but they were $10 a piece.
Met comic artists Janet Chang and Bernard Chang (no relation), and one of the producers of Paper Tigers.
There was this fan meet up that was a total fail. It was way out where no one would find it. But it was near the concert stage where crunchyroll was doing a show. There was a mediocre edm dj but the crowd was so fun. A dance circle formed and cosplayers went for it - not great dancing but joyous and free.
Then was my first taste of J-pop. Atarashii gakko.
Oh
My
Lord
So fun. I never realized. The band was 4 20ish gals in school sailor suits and their dancing was fire. They were all over the place - cheesy, kawai, irrevent, so explosively energetic and uplifting. The crowd was clapping and dancing to their steps. I loved it.
Maybe it was the norco, so this is my new fav band. It was a great night.
Walker back to my room past the overnight line for hall h. I heard that this morning, the line for Keanu was only 15 min and not full. Also heard that the rookie was virtual - attendees were pissed.
Pain level was constant and got bad around lunch. I dropped the norco just prior to the concert. Feel good now…
