years (decades?) ago I had a shooting pain in my back, under one of my shoulder blades. It was as if I was being stabbed with a spear. A doctor looked at it, did an ultrasound, and determined that it was my gall bladder. The ultrasound revealed, not gall stones, but "gall sludge". He suggested surgery to remove the gall bladder. I went instead to a Chinese herbalist who gave me a weekend regimen: Fri night: drink 1 cup of olive oil straight. Fast all weekend. Sun night: drink 1 cup of olive oil straight. That second one was really really hard to get down.
Knock on wood, I haven't had any gall issues, nor that stabbing pain in the back since.
