I didn't fall although my hand looks like it. Yesterday I was cutting and breaking dead shoots off a big butterfly bush in the yard and when one broke I bruised the base of my left thumb. It hurt but didn't really swell or look bruised. This morning when I got to work the whole base of my thumb was bruised, wrapping around to the back of my hand a bit, and down onto my wrist on the inside. I was freaked out for a minute. Apparently my workout this morning made it much worse. That's never happened to me before. It reminded me of the aftermath of some of my mom's falls.
