I've rethought this matter. The house has 3 storm doors, and if I bought three of them, the delivery cost would be more sensible. But only the kitchen door takes the brunt of the weather. The front and back door don't get directly hit.
Just went for a stroll through the neighborhood. Lots of new or renovated houses. Almost none of them have a storm door, at least for the front door. Of the older houses, maybe half have storm doors on their front. Maybe there's been a shift to better main doors, making storm doors irrelevant. Although a lot of the places seem to choose aesthetics over function. Some really nice front doors!
I remember what my dad would do every fall. He'd remove the screens from all the windows, and then he'd staple plastic over where they'd been. This really helped with the bitter cold winters. I just assumed that everyone back there did that. Maybe they did, maybe they didn't.
Maybe I could do something like that for the storm door.
I'll give it some more thought.
