E3: Market, a survivor’s party, a piglet. The Last Men are thinly disguised metaphors for the proud boys, and that’s working okay. Still not clear what works and what doesn’t. There’s trains, power, plumbing...but what is the car sitch exactly?
So much hinges on Gus. At first, given his upbringing, I wanted him to be more like Jodie Foster’s Nell and Saiorse Ronan’s Hanna, but Gus is charming and working in his own way. Jepp is a tad cliche, but working because the actor has good gravitas.
I also like the cinematography. Heavy on the drone shots, but some nice panoramic wilderness shots.
Wait... was that a sword? Or just a long knife? Or maybe it was a tusk?
E4 post-apocalypse furries. Not sure how they could keep their camp a secret lair when they’re lighting ceremonial smoke fires. Whatev. We’ll just let that go.
Gus’s effects have been convincing with his ears but the full cgi animals are cartoonish.
I’m rather enjoying this. I’m fascinated by its commentary on the pandemic, but moreso, I like how the main protags are developing.
