Sailor Moon Eternal Part 2
After Part 1 I was going to write this off as a gratuitous reboot, but Part 2 goes into deep lore. It gets crazy as all the Sailor Guardians come into play.
These films won't make a lick of sense if you don't know the franchise well. I only watched the first few series with Tara. We never finished it after she moved out. Every once in a while we might watch an episode together just to reminisce but there was bits towards the end of Part 2 that I was challenged to track. No time is spent on introducing anything so if you don't know, this is just a total mess.
Nevertheless, the animation is gorgeous. There's a few good twists on the canon. The Uranus/Neptune lesbian relationship is converted to a menage a trois with Pluto also as a parent to Saturn. That was a good opening - surprisingly out of the closet and accepting. Tuxedo Moon doesn't manifest until the end. The cats and Pegasus reveal their human incarnations. The Sailors interact with their human hosts. There's some nightmarish visions, and a lot of prismatic lens flares.
I enjoyed Part 2 and unfortunately, Part 1 needs to be slogged through for it to make sense. It went much deeper than Super S but I've never read the manga so I can't say if it was more true to that.
Sword fight! Sailor Uranus (the butch Sailor with short cropped hair who cross-dresses like a male) wields the Space Sword. That's cool.

Not DOOM recommended. This is the sole territory of DM's weird obsessions.
