I'm more broken than you
A couple of days ago, my right foot big toe started to hurt. I get a lot of pain signals from my feet at this point. I didn't give it too much notice. I probably stubbed it. The pain would go away soon and I would move on to some other foot ailment. But no. The pain persisted. I paid more attention to the toe and gave it an examination. Much to my surprise, there were two dark dots on the underside of the toe. Further exploration revealed the dots were quite hard. This led to the conclusion that the dots were the top of something embedded in my toe. This can only mean one thing: Surgery! Fortunately, the Dowager Empress had gone to bed early so I could do the necessary on the comfort of my own couch in front of a horrified tQ.

The first step in these situations is to give the area around the dots a good squeeze to see if you can make the offending material pop out with the pus. No luck this time. The pieces rose a little but not that satisfying explosion that means the job is over. Instead, I got to start digging at the dots with my tweezers. I was hoping that it was just one piece and the two dots represented either end of the offending material. But after I pulled the first piece out, the other dot remained. I had to dig it out. I was thinking of getting the matte knife out to do some judicious cutting because the dot proved to be recalcitrant but I eventually grabbed the head and got that piece out as well.

Both pieces were the hard tips of foxtails. I must have jabbed them in there while I walked around the yard in sandals and no socks.
As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm
