Jessica Chastain indulges her need to hit people in this story of an assassin who is about to be retired by the company she works for. John Malkovich and Colin Ferrel co-star.
There is also this weird melodrama story that is going on with Ava's family. She fights with her mother, Geena Davis and has mixed feelings for her former boyfriend Common.
Is the story about an assassin getting killed by his own spy agency the oldest trope in the book. It felt incredibly trite. And they never give a good reason for why they need to terminate Ava.
But there were plenty of fights and in those fights we saw a lot of the back of Ava's head. I got the feeling Chastain didn't do a lot of her own fights. Which isn't a good course to take especially after seeing Theron in Atomic Blonde where you could see Theron's face all the time. Though there were a lot of fights, there wasn't anything particularly unique about them. Just lots of them.
And during the pause in the fights, you got to see Ava and melodrama. It was quite schizophrenic. What kind of movie am I watching. I think they tie together in that after Ava had problems at home, she went off to become an assassin. Which is what you do.
So, plenty of fights. Plenty of knife fights. Plenty of stupidity. Malkovich was good in his role as Malkovich.

As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm
