I have named all my cars. I started it due to PPFY actually. He had that car he named Garuda back when we were young innocent fencers, and I thought that was so cool. So I did the same and always have.
My 1st car was Blondie, a yellow 4-door Chevy with barrel seats which were great for high school snogging. I took that car up to 125mph on 280 once because that's as high as the speedometer would go and you do dumb stuff like that when you're a teen. It had power, but it started getting really sketchy on me with intermittent problems eventually.
My 2nd car was The Blue Meanie, a blue 4-door Toyota Corolla hatchback. It was 2nd hand, previously a rental. That car had so many issues. The driver door handle broke and my dad and I tried everything to fix it, combing junk yards, building sketchy makeshift devices. My dad eventually found the part but wouldn't buy it because he wanted to fix it. We had a huge fight over that but he eventually relented. That car also had Satan Station Stereo - a cassette player that would randomly play both sides of the tape simultaneously. I discovered that on 880 coming home from a Dead show and I thought I was having the worst flashback. I started mixing tapes specifically for SSS with one melodic and one percussive side. My car got robbed at MQ6. They stole my sleeping bag and nitekit. They tried to steal SSS but couldn't pry it loose and cut themselves on it. The blood stain was from the cassette tape dock. I crashed the Blue Meanie on the old MacArthur maze in Oakland. My dad tried to fix it, even bending out the frame with a jack, but it was done.
My 3rd car was Shadow, a grey 4-door Toyota Corolla sedan. That was my sweetest ride - it had a moon roof and a killer stereo, and was fully loaded. It was a graduation gift from my grandfather. He made this loser's bet with me. That was a great car and served me well for so many years. I have fond memories of driving home from shows on warm summer nights, moon roof open, stereo blaring, and just loving the experience of driving.
My 4th car was Bolt, the grey Prius 4-door sedan. It was the 2nd year that the model was available in the U.S. It was a status symbol to be on the cutting edge of new tech, but it was also a pain in the ass because I could only take it to the dealership back then and the nearest dealer was auto-nation, and they suck. I came close to geting into a legal battle with auto-nation (had a lawyer friend write an official nasty letter) and I was done with Toyotas.
My 5th car was unnamed. It was my dad's green 4-door Toyota Camry sedan, same car my mom still has. After his stroke, he had no need for it, and Bolt was having issues. My dad's car didn't last long. I don't think we had it for more than a year, but I can't really remember it now.
My 6th car was Caesar, a play on 'seisure' or 'fit' because it was a red Honda Fit, a 4-door hatchback. I love small hatchbacks and I loved that car for its size and mileage. Unfortunately, as mentioned at the beginning of this thread, Fits aren't built for hills, certainly not for HWY17.
My 7th car is Darth, the black Toyota CRV. Darth is too big for me, but it's serving me well. It's safe and reliable.
