Someday was today. And yeah, formulaic absurd action, a lot like the MCU. A bit disappointing for Leitch as I expected better fight choreo. Statham is the only one who could deliver more than half a dozen moves in one shot. The rest was pretty simple stuff, even for the Rock. Beyond Hart & Reynolds, Greg neglected to mention Helen Mirren's cameo, which was quite wasted, but at least it sets up a sequel.
Last year, only 2 Hollywood films made China's top 10; the rest were domestic. Those two were this and Endgame. China now has more theater screens than all of North America combined. The U.S. still has a larger film market $11B to PRC's 9B, but that is the last bastion of Hollywood dominance. It has everyone thinking about that crossover hit. Cf was way ahead of the curve when he won that screenwriting contest a few years back. I keep looking for elements of his screenplay to show up in some PRC film, but frankly, it's been hard to keep up lately. Of their top 10, I've only seen Wandering Earth, which cf and I discussed ( http://www.brotherhoodofdoom.com/doomFor...p?tid=4955). I'm eager to see the rest, especially Nezha.
But back to H&S, yeah, kinda what Greg said. I'm astounded that this franchise has come so far on it's silly premise but must salute it's originality for not being based on anything beyond all the cliches they can poach, and am eager for the next F&F.
