I remember seeing a TV show -- can't remember the name; some kind of Twilight Zone knock-off. Anyway, a biker (very bizzarely played by a young John Astin!) dies, goes to hell and discovers himself trapped in a room with a bunch of old people showing slides of their last vacation. Can't remember all of the show, but I remember it being explained that heaven and hell depend on your own personal idea. That the old people in that same room thought they were in heaven.
Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.
