A Simple Favor (2018)
#1
Ms. Marvel meets Pitch Perfect & a Crazy Rich Asian.  That's not really a fair analogy but it had to be said.  Anna is as adorkable as ever, even more so because this is a satirical black humor mystery thriller.  Blake is gorgeous and pathological.  The two ladies play their parts well with tongues firmly planted in cheeks (if you don't pick up on that and take this seriously, I don't think it'll work).  Henry, well, the jury is still out on Henry for me - he's the hunky hapa now and plays pretty much that role again here.  Ultimately any handsome dude could've played his role, but only Anna and Blake could pull off theirs.  I've always liked Anna even though she's an overactor, sort of a broadway type that wound up in movies. I can see where that could get annoying though, and this almost went there for me. Blake is so quirky, and I've got a soft spot for her kind of quirk.  It's a really good role for her, somewhat against type, or at least, against her previous work.  I was very amused, mostly because it had a funny sense of humor to it - not a laugh out loud kind and it really crosses the line of absurd by the end, but it's been a rainy weekend and I've just been snuggled up in my bungalow with our abandoned hospice cat watching vids and dreading having to go back to work tomorrow after the t-day break, so this was another in the half-dozen flicks I zoned out to this weekend.  No sword fights.  Not particularly DOOM recommended unless you're a fan of any of the cast.
