Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
#3
I'm going to assume, given the original '06 date of this thread, that this is referring to the '05 film and not the original BBC series.  Just watched it.  It was okay.  It's been over 3 decades since I read the books.  Tara recently read them and thoroughly enjoyed them, occassionally refreshing my memory of it.  Honestly, the BBC series stuck with me more, or I should say it knocked home some of the story arcs.

This film felt really rushed, trying to pack all that wit into an hour and a half.  That didn't quite work, and I agree with the Yeti about the forced romance.  What did work, especially in retrospect now, was Watson/Bilbo as Dent.  Didn't care for Zooey, Rockwell or Mos Def.  Wasn't feeling them in the roles.  HP factor 3 (Snape, Scrimgeour & Ravenclaw).  Snape was particularly good as Marvin, although I didn't care for the way he looked.  The best scene for me was the cameo of the BBC Marvin.  Mirren's & Malkovich's cameos were amusing too.  It had its moments but definitely fell short of the source material.  I also appreciated that the Vogons were puppets and not CGI.  Good ol' Henson.
