I'm at the two-week point in applying Fluorouracil (effudex) cream to spots on my nose, forehead, and scalp. Lady Cranefly is glad I'll be stopping with the nose and forehead today, as those areas now look like bases that Rickey Henderson has slid into too many times (an obscure baseball reference). I'll continue the spots on the scalp for a third week.
I was leaning towards seeing a specialist, as I suspect one of the spots on my scalp has gone to the dark side (I had one major surgical removal up there some 12 years ago, which is why my hair stands up weird towards the front). But when I consulted my doctor, she just had me come in to get photos, and the dermatologist looked at them and emailed me saying, "Actinic keratosis." Well, I knew that. She recommended liquid nitrogen or this cream. I opted for the cream.
We'll see how that one spot on the scalp behaves once I'm done. Always a bit skeptical of these simplistic explanations like, "Effudex eliminates unhealthy cells and leaves you with healthy skin." Sounds a lot like cosmetic advertisements.
Anyway, onward and upward, or spiraling in an unknown direction, as the case may be....
