Was "Kung Fu" the first series to regularly integrate 'flashback' elements into the story? There were two key scenrs that shaped my youthful philosophy; the demonstration of a gun by tricking young Caine into shooting a beautiful vase and the masters becoming servants for him when he complains about chores.

Damn that show was awesome.
