First off, time to buy Spielberg a new color palette. Those oversaturated dark tones are beginning to be a bit much.
I started watching this on the plane to England and promptly went to sleep. So, I finally got a chance to view it when it arrived from Netflix.
It's a slow build. Really slow. I get it that Spielberg wants the story to unfold, but come on. Tighten up your shot selections. Towards the middle, after Powers gets shot down and the prison exchange is going on, it does get intriguing again. But then for the end, the momentum dies again as Spielberg decides to let each scene take as long as he has film for.
Well acted, but I don't get why Rylance won the academy award. He didn't do all that much. Not a lot of depth to his character nor a lot of nuance. Just a solid performance. Hanks continues his career as dependable everyman. Be nice to see him do something a bit different for a change. He used to be funny, but there is no time for that.
It's a solid if long film. Glad to see something without Super Heroes, but I wish there was a little more flash to the picture.

As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm
