I saw this in the theatre when it came out. It made me pretty uncomfortable as a teen. Grass just recently died. The city in Poland (Danzig/Gdansk?) where this takes place is his home town. He was a force, Gunter, both as a writer and as an artist. I recommend looking up his art work.
