I had a similar issue with Birdman. When art talks about its own process, it is so self-serving. French movies do that a lot, chat about the grand meaning of art in some B&W scene over espresso and cigarettes at a street cafe.
That being said, I did enjoy BF because I thought it captured writer's block well with its mood.
