It was a long ride to get there - from Fremont, to Morgan Hill to pick up T, then to the Greek, all at rush hour. It was hot, but that made for a perfect night at the Greek, with a stunning sunset over SF. The show was nearly sold-out (the previous night was SO; this was the 2nd added show). T is eager to start working for RM but there were plenty of EMTs ready-2-go, so we just posed and watched the whole show. Nice crowd, mostly teen girls, some parents, a few Lorde-a-likes.
Magical cloudz opened. 2 guys, 1 on synth keys. Too emo.
Lorde has got her sound together now, along with a dynamic set - a triptych video screen, lots of smoke machines, a smoke-filled bubble machine, an artsy light-up mandala tryptych, a chandelier and confetti cannons. However she still resists the typical pop diva showwomanship as her dancing is frantic and unchoreographed and she tends to sing bent over. In fact, she moves a little like Bob Marley on stage, hyperactively jumping to some music that's a moment ahead of the beat, constantly waving her leonine mane like an antennae net trawling for the muse. Her voice is still rich and she bends her singing like a true musician instead of just reciting like most pop divas. And she still feels quite genuine when she chats up the audience. She did do three costume changes tho - from a black sleeveless top and gypsy pants to a white diaphanous top and gypsy pants then to a red top, cape and gypsy pants. She only bared a little midriff, keeping her navel prudently covered like I Dream of Jeannie, far from the sex kitten attire of most pop divas. It was a great show, but it made me feel old.
