There's some sort of anchovy run, at least that's what I'm told, so there's been a lot of sea life - dolphins, seals, otters, and the best ones to watch - whales. T & I were at a pizza party for her class on Sunday in Aptos. I now realize that there are two types of families at T's new school - uber rich and middle-class spiritual seekers (you know where I stand here - actually closer to lower-mid class now because S is only working part-time and I'm spending a fortune on gas for my commute). The house was in a gated community, high atop a hillside with a commanding view of the bay. The family is heir to Willoughby farms in Watsonville. When they said 'pizza party' they meant hand-cooked pizza in the outdoor wood-fired oven, topped with gourmet veggies - each pizza different and delicious. They have a car collection - several pristine amazing automobiles, which I didn't see but T did. And from that lofty estate, we could see the whale spouts in the bay. Wow.
Despite the affluent classmates (who are really nice people, just crazy rich) we're loving Santa Cruz so much. Greg was spot on with his prediction. I keep coming back to that Dylan lyric "There was music in the cafés at night and revolution in the air". We caught some of the high school marching band competition on Saturday - strategically situated at the Drum Line competition. That was fun as I love rudimentary drumming. Then we went to a benefit for T's school, at Pacific Cultural Center where S takes yoga and T catches the bus (two blocks from home). Prabha and Friends was several Mt. Madonna grads, some teachers, and some other musicians, playing kirtan, folk, blues and jazz. It was lovely, yet somewhat bittersweet as Baba Hari Dass is sick. He is 90 now and lives in Bonny Doon. If he does pass, it will be interesting to see how that affects T's school.
I'm usually very into doing RM for Halloween, as there are always several shows and I love costuming. But this year, I'm thinking I'll just stay in the Cruz. It's already crazy with Halloween decor here.
