While I'm usually eager to avoid depressing topics during entertainment (reality presents a sufficient amount of thought-provocation), I do enjoy Ms. Vowell's sarcastic and yet thoroughly researched approach to astonishingly awful events in U.S. history; this time, the Christianization and then annexation of Hawaii. Read this and feel anew a fresh hatred for people who assume that their way is the only way (e.g. missionaries, rich white corporate types, rich white politicians, etc.)

Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.
